Gear Head

Guitar stand.

Guitar stand with guitar ...

When it comes to music, I'm not much of a gear head; until I bought that micro-amp, I had the guitar, in its case, with a tuner and a Neck-up strap, a music stand, and a drummer's throne I sometimes used, and that was pretty much it.

When I wasn't playing it, the guitar stayed buttoned up in the case; I didn't have a stand because I didn't trust my galloping dogs not to run into it and knock it over.

Since I've started doing jam sessions, I sometimes find myself lacking a place to set the guitar if I have to go to the loo. Balancing it on a chair is not the best idea, and setting it on the floor is definitely a bad idea. Long ago and far away, I put my guitar on the floor at a gathering, and somebody promptly stepped on it, snapped the headstock like a greenstick fracture.

So I broke down and bought a portable stand, a sturdy one. It folds up, though not enough to fit into a gig bag. Not that I would use a gig bag anyway. I want a hardshell case on my guitar when it leaves the house.

The place we gather to play has a serious hookup. Three of the four walls are lined with gravity-lock guitar hangers mounted at 6' up. Everybody switches between bass, piano and guitar (and gets up to get a beer) So the hangers really pay off. The PA board, mikes and pedals are all in the center of the room and PA speakers are mounted up in the room corners. This is in a 12x12 basement bedroom and we easily fit 7 musicians. You have to see it.....

Cooperstand makes a real nice one that fits into a hard case, underneath the neck. A bit pricey, but real nice.

The Cooperstand looks very cool. I already have junk under the neck in my case, but this one would fit into my amp bag easily.

Hmm.

I have one pretty similar to this and I use it pretty much exclusively because of how it folds up. I never have enough hands when taking all my gear, and I can fold it up on the bottom of a back pack strap or a gig bag strap and it hangs there and doesn't fall off.
