Adios, Joel Rosenberg

Joel Rosenberg
1954-2011

Science fiction and fantasy writer Joel Rosenberg passed away yesterday, apparently from complications of respiratory depression and a heart attack. Best known for his Guardians of the Flame series, he was an ardent gun-rights activist who wrote books about concealed carry and who taught classes to shooters in Minnesota, where he lived.

Last year, he went strapped into the local police department to make a point, and wound up in jail, and for a while, there was a YouTube vid wherein he showed how many firearms you could conceal upon your person ...

His first stories showed up in Asimov's Magazine a few years after I got my start there, and his writing tended to feature good gun stuff.

Adios, Joel.

Thanks for posting this; I always seem to be the last to know. I didn't hear about Sheffield for over a year.

Liked his "Flame" series and the way his characters interacted. Always hoped for another one...
