New Toy




So, the new uke got here. Sounds waaay better than the old one. Got a hardfoam case, tuner, extra strings. Spent too much of my work day playing with it, got sore fingers, but it's a fun toy.

 Once I get a handle on the barre chords, I'll tackle Jake Shimabukuro's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps."

 I mean, how hard could it be?

    I think there's a rule that if you get one of those, you're required to learn a tune called "Ukulele Lady". It's sort of like learning "Lady of Spain" if you play the accordion.

    Here's a fun Jake Shimabukuro story:

    Some of my friends were with me playing uke in our local Tavern, just hacking away for fun.
    This lady finally came over and asked if we could play a Hawaiian song. We told her we didn't know any. We were playing stuff like Allman Bros and folk/blues.
    She laughed and asked if we had heard of Jake Shimabukuro and we said sure, he rocks!
    So she told us that she wanted to take a picture of our trashy little group so she could show Jake, ha, ha....
