Yes, I am working on Churl, the next Matador novel. Along with a couple of short story ideas that popped up, based loosely on The Three Little Pigs, and John Henry, respectively. I'll let you know where those can be found when I get them done and either sold or up as e-files.
And if anybody cares, while I was walking the dogs this afternoon, a bee flew out of nowhere and proceeded to sting me under the chin. I caught a glimpse of it as I swatted it away and first thought it was a yellow jacket, but when I got home, the stinger and venom sac was still stuck in me, so bee.
Just so you know ...
A short story about the 3 little pigs and John Henry...
ReplyDeleteWhy does that sound like a dirty joke?
Under the chin? Ugh. Heal up, and be well sir.
ReplyDeleteApparently I have become quite affected by stings this year. either that or the weather this year has done something to strengthen them.
ReplyDeleteBoth my son and I have been bitten by horseflies multiple times when kayaking and our feet have swelled up like balloons, never happened before.
Just last week I indavertantly found an inground nest of something while weeding. stung 5 times in the hand, swelled up like crazy.
What's the deal this summer????
More than a couple stings at a time can cause some serious swelling. Maybe ten years ago, I got four hornet stings on the arm as I was rearranging the firewood pile. Put out the yellow jacket trap and filled the sucker up in twenty-four hours.
ReplyDeleteArm got pretty bloated.
If the reactions are getting worse, be sure to take some antihistamine with you. And you can get a prescription for an insect sting kit, which is basically a hypo of epinephrine and some chewable antihistamines. Ana-kit or Epi-pen. Spendy, but a lifesaver ...
No, it's two stories: One is the pigs, the other is JH. I have a thing I like to do updating fairy tales or making fantasy stories more urban-y. Guy finds the bones of a dinosaur and they turn out to belong to Puff the Magic Dragon. The Pied Piper of Hamelin now runs a restaurant and the rats help out, like that.
ReplyDeleteI read it right -- but playing it straight wouldn't have been nearly as funny!
ReplyDeleteAnd, honestly, a story inspired by both the 3 Little Pigs and John Henry, the original Steel Driving Man, or Joe Magarac, the real Iron Man... You tell me that could make at least a good dirty joke!
