Well, here's one I didn't see coming: A how-to book for pedophiles. Apparently you can buy a copy on Amazon.com in the Kindle bookstore.
Written by one Phillip R. Greaves II, who even has a picture and profile on the Amazon site, along with his home town. One would think he'd use a pseudonym, and maybe that is. I dunno. I sure as hell would.
There is brave. And then there is suicidal ...
As long as there isn't any kiddie porn in the thing, it is apparently legal. More than a thousand reviews so far -- and averaging one star, which is as low as Amazon.com allows.
No, I'm not putting any links to any of this. Not even the name of the thing. Even mentioning it makes me nervous. Yeah, 1st Amendment and all, but you have to wonder: What the hell was he thinking? However much money he makes from the morbidly curious, you have to figure he is going to be sleeping with one eye open from now on.
Man. Just when you think you've seen it all ...
Addendum: And as of now 11/11, it's gone -- which isn't really that much of a surprise. Free speech and all notwithstanding, Amazon.com was getting a lot of flak and folks were organizing boycotts. It business, it's all about the bottom line.
A special spot in hell...
ReplyDeleteThe viral outrage has bumped it into the top 100 sellers. Unintended consequences there.
ReplyDeleteIn Amazon's defense, they can't actually assign someone to read every single ebook that someone puts up. Until today I'm guessing that nobody at Amazon even knew what was in the book. Now that the fertilizer has hit the air circulator they'll find a reason that it violates their terms of service and take it down.
I wonder how many LEOs will find it useful.
