My wife got a service award this morning -- ten years into a project she thought might take as long as three -- and it was held at the Chinese Gardens in downtown Portland.
Lovely place, serene, inviting, beautiful on a bright summer morning. There was food, Chinese musicians playing in the b.g., and the awards, which ran from ten to thirty years, with a few retirees invited back because they left before the ceremony. Company president and directors called the employees up, gave them certificates, shook everybody's hands.
I got some nice pictures. The lotus blossoms were in bloom, and while I usually associate bonsai with Japan and not China, that's where the idea came from originally. Apparently the Chinese term was penzai. There were several beautiful examples of those on display.
Portland has outstanding greenery in general, and world-class Chinese and Japanese gardens. If you get a chance, check them out.
