Alexander a little less so, but he still was much more brutal than we are now.

Not that I'm advocating brutality. I'm with Joe on this one, we either pave the whole country over & turn it into a parking lot, or cut bait and paddle off. "Winning" in Afghanistan has become a not-funny metaphor for total failure. The Russians must be laughing their asses off right now, while watching Rambo III on DVD.Bobbe Edmondshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14346040017021718774noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29640480.post-3632550533503742892009-12-07T12:07:30.885-08:002009-12-07T12:07:30.885-08:00You forgot Alexander the GreatYou forgot Alexander the GreatAlanLhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04820194790550072204noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29640480.post-18795449394066522062009-12-04T23:02:12.376-08:002009-12-04T23:02:12.376-08:00I believe it's highly improbable that he'l...I believe it's highly improbable that he'll win in Afghanistan, but not impossible. I do believe that America's methods are too much brute force and not enough finesse (i.e., intelligence.) You can't fight a tactic, you can only fight the people who employ it. Terrorism is too effective a tactic to believe that you can wipe it out. President Reagan made that mistake with the war on drugs.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04499560027570055169noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29640480.post-81127572508018943962009-12-03T06:33:26.758-08:002009-12-03T06:33:26.758-08:00The Mongols did pull it off.
But I don't want...The Mongols did pull it off.

But I don't want the U.S. to model it's foreign policy on the Mongol hordes of Genghis Khan and Tamerlane, you know? Big genetic changes in 12th century central Asia, because everywhere he went everybody died. I really hope that's not us.Scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04606348439737007635noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29640480.post-24132382139465115442009-12-03T06:14:15.925-08:002009-12-03T06:14:15.925-08:00Choosing a direction for Afghanistan is impossible...Choosing a direction for Afghanistan is impossible.
